A Meta-Analysis of Soccer Injuries on Artificial Turf and Natural Grass

This meta-analysis aims to examine the relationship between playing soccer on artificial turf and natural grass, specifically focusing on the risk of player injuries. Through a comprehensive review of existing studies, we have found no conclusive evidence supporting the notion that playing matches or training on artificial turf increases the risk of soccer injuries. On the contrary, some evidence suggests that certain types of injuries and specific subgroups of players may experience a reduced risk when playing on artificial turf. However, due to limited knowledge regarding factors such as altered playing styles and their impact on injury incidence, it remains challenging to draw definitive conclusions regarding the direct and indirect roles of artificial turf in ensuring player safety.
